Varun Gandhi slams Kangana Ranaut for her recent comments on country’s freedom; actress reacts | Hindi Movie News - Bollywood - Times of India

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has never shied away from speaking her heart and mind out. However, her ways land her in trouble quite often. Recently, the actress sparked a controversy when during a Times Now Summit event, she made a remark saying that India actually got freedom in the year 2014 and what the nation got in 1947 was just 'alms'. Kangana Ranaut, apparently referring to the Narendra Modi powered BJP coming to power in 2014, said in Hindi which loosely translates to, 'That was not freedom but bheekh (alms), and the freedom came in 2014.' Now, BJP leader Varun Gandhi has reacted to Kangana's remark and expressed his displeasure on it. Varun took to his Twitter handle and penned an angry note in Hindi that loosely translates to, 'Sometimes an insult to the sacrifice and penance of Mahatma Gandhi, sometimes the respect of his killer, and now the disdain for the sacrifices of millions of freedom fighters from Shaheed Mangal Pandey to Rani Laxmibai, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and more. Should I call this thinking madness or treason?' After reading Vaun's tweet, Kangana took to her social media handle and replied, 'Even though I clearly mentioned that 1857 freedom fight was the first revolution that was curbed…which led to more atrocities and cruelties from the British and almost a century was given to us in Gandhi's begging bowl…Jaa aur ro ab.' Meanwhile, the actress, after getting the National Film Award for the fourth time, was recently conferred with the Padma Shri. While expressing her gratitude for receiving the honour, the stunning actress shared a video of her on Instagram and said, 'As an artist, I have received many awards, love, and acknowledgment but today I have received an award for being a model citizen of this country. I'm grateful.' Talking about her work front, Kangana will be next seen in the films like 'Emergency', 'Dhaakad', 'Tejas' to name a few.
